The Find All feature highlights different terms and phrases in your document, such as terms of art or entity names. When you click one of the highlighted terms in your document, Lexis® for Microsoft® Office opens the LexisNexis® pane on the right that gives you access to the top results for each item. Click View All under any category to review more results and narrow results as you would on the Lexis® service.

In the Office 365 and Mac versions, Find is available in the arrow menu for Get Cited Docs.

Find highlights and underlines citations, entities, judges and other terms in your document. Click the highlighted term to view the term in a pop-up window.

The Find All button highlights the following types of information:
Terms of Art
Judge and Attorney Names
Entity Names
Citations and Shepard's® Citation Service Reports
  

 Terms of Art


The Find All button highlights terms of art listed in Balletine's Law Dictionary. Click on a highlighted word or phrase to display the following information:
  • Lexis®: searches the sources available in your Lexis for Microsoft Office and Lexis subscription for the selected term. The default results you see are Secondary > Dictionaries but you can switch the view to any of the available content types.
  • Practical Guidance: searches all available content available in your Practical Guidance subscription for the selected term. The default results you see are Practice Notes but you can switch the view to any of the available content types.
    Note: This is only available for users with a Practical Guidance subscription.
  • My Computer: searches the files on your computer for the selected term.
  • Work Folders: searches your Lexis folders for the selected term.
  • Web: searches the open web for the selected term using the search engines Bing® and GoogleTM.
  • Litigation experience in your firm: searches your firm document management system (DMS) for the selected term.
    Note: This is only available for firms with an integrated DMS.
  • Exemplars and Best Practices in your firm: searches your firm DMS for the selected term to locate documents identified as best practices for your firm.
    Note: This is only available for firms with an integrated DMS.

Entity Names 


Lexis for Microsoft Office recognizes companies that are listed in the Directory of Corporate Affiliates and have annual revenue greater than $1 million.

Click on an entity name to display the following information:
  • Lexis®: searches the sources available in your Lexis for Microsoft Office and Lexis subscription for the selected entity. The default results you see are Company materials but you can switch the view to any of the available content types.
  • Practical Guidance: searches all available content available in your Practical Guidance subscription for the selected entity. The default results you see are Practice Notes but you can switch the view to any of the available content types.
    Note: This is only available for users with a Practical Guidance subscription.
  • My Computer: searches the files on your computer for the selected entity.
  • Work Folders: searches your Lexis folders for the selected entity.
  • Web: searches the open web for the selected entity using the search engines Bing® and GoogleTM.

Judge and Attorney Names 


Lexis for Microsoft Office recognizes judges and attorneys. The functionality is similar entity recognition on other LexisNexis® services.

Click on a judge or attorney name to display the following information:
  • Lexis®: searches the sources available in your Lexis for Microsoft Office and Lexis subscription for the selected individual. The default results you see are Cases but you can switch the view to any of the available content types.
  • Practical Guidance: searches all available content available in your Practical Guidance subscription for the selected individual. The default results you see are Practice Notes but you can switch the view to any of the available content types.
    Note: This is only available for users with a Practical Guidance subscription.
  • My Computer: searches the files on your computer for the selected individual.
  • Work Folders: searches your Lexis folders for the selected individual.
  • Web: searches the open web for the selected individual using the search engines Bing® and GoogleTM.

Citations and Shepard's Citation Service Reports 


Lexis for Microsoft Office recognizes legal citations and generates links to the full text document and the Shepard's Citation Services report.

Click a legal citation to open the full text document and click the Shepard's® signal to open the report.

Note: If you create a document by copying/pasting from Lexis, do a Paste Special in Microsoft Word to avoid pasting links that interfere with Lexis for Microsoft Office. Take the following steps to use the Paste/Special functionality:
  1. In Word, on the Home tab, click on the down arrow under the Paste icon.
  2. Select Paste Special.
  3. Select Unformatted Text.
  4. Click Ok.
