Overview
Invoices are submitted to CounselLink® by a law firm using the following formats:
- LEDES file upload (import)
- Email to counsellinkinvoices@lexisnexis.com
The Corporate Client creates matters and assigns them to a law firm office. The law firm can only bill for the matters they see in CounselLink (e.g., matters that have been assigned to the firm by the clients). The law firm cannot bill for a matter that is not assigned to the law firm office in CounselLink.
Not all clients allow invoices to be submitted by email or by LEDES (e.g., some clients only allow LEDES invoice or only allow email invoices).Creating an Invoice
Creating a manual invoice in CounselLink is the easiest way to invoice a flat fee matter, a contingency matter, or matters with multi stage fee structures. It can also be a good fit for law firms that are doing detailed hourly billing, if their invoices have low line counts (only a few lines per invoice). Reference How to Create an Invoice with Flat Rate Fees (Stage) for CounselLink for more information.
Importing Invoices
Law Firms can upload an invoice that was created by the law firms time and billing software as a LEDES 1998B and1998BI only. Customer can import LEDES files up to a total of 10MB. LEDES file uploads are usually in the system in a few minutes, but can take up to 24 hours for the file to parse and the clients rules to run. Reference How to Import a LEDES invoice to CounselLink.
Emailing Invoices
Law Firms can email invoices to counsellinkinvoices@lexisnexis.com. See Requirements to Mail or Email an Invoice to CounselLink.
