When using Microsoft Word, you can search Practical Guidance through the Lexis® for Microsoft® Office ribbon using language in your document to find related practice advice, checklists, forms, and market data.

Note: This feature is not available when using Lexis for Microsoft Office in Microsoft Outlook.

Practical Guidance and Forms buttons appear on the LexisNexis® ribbon in Microsoft Word and allow you to search materials available in your Practical Guidance subscription. Search Forms

 Search Practical Guidance

You can use the Search Practical Guidance feature to search in all modules available in your Practical Guidance subscription. Search results open in the LexisNexis pane in your Word document.

Take the following steps to search Practical Guidance:
  1. If not already open, click the LexisNexis® ribbon.
  2. Highlight the text on which you want to search.
  3. Click Practical Guidance in the LexisNexis® ribbon.
  4. Select Search Practical Guidance.
If you do not have text highlighted in the document and you click Practical Guidance > Search Practical Guidance, Lexis for Microsoft Office uses words around where your cursor is in the document to construct and run the search.

As you are reviewing the Practical Guidance results in the LexisNexis pane, you can narrow your results by clicking the Narrow by... drop-down list and select a filter to use to narrow your results. The results default to Practice Notes, but you can use the tabs available to view other Practical Guidance content types such as Forms, Articles, or Secondary Materials.

 Search Forms

You can use the Search Practical Guidance feature to search in all modules available in your Practical Guidance subscription for sample forms. Search results open in the LexisNexis pane in your Word document.

Take the following steps to search Practical Guidance for forms:
  1. If not already open, click the LexisNexis® ribbon.
  2. Highlight the text on which you want to search.
  3. Click Forms in the LexisNexis® ribbon.
  4. Select Search Forms.
If you do not have text highlighted in the document and you click Forms > Search Forms, Lexis for Microsoft Office uses words around where your cursor is in the document to construct and run the search.

As you are reviewing the Practical Guidance results in the LexisNexis pane, you can narrow your results by clicking the Narrow by... drop-down list and select a filter to use to narrow your results. Practical Guidance includes sample forms and fillable forms. As you review your results, if you find a fillable form you want to use, click Edit in Browser or Open in a Word Document from the full text document. You cannot complete the form in the LexisNexis pane. You may find that opening the form in your browser gives you a better experience than opening the document in Word.
