 Background

The Federal Employer Identification Number (FEIN), is a unique nine-digit number assigned by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to business entities operating in the United States for the purposes of identification and taxes.

The FEIN is not always available due to the fact that many agencies no longer require the FEIN for business registrations and many have redacted the number due to privacy concerns. Also, the sources we use to find the FEIN do not contain a comprehensive listing of all FEINs.

The FEIN can also be referred to as the following:

  • Employer Identification Number
  • Federal Tax Identification Number
  • IRS Employer Identification Number
  • Tax ID Number (TIN)
  • Taxpayer ID

Note: Due to the fact that some of the sources the FEIN can be pulled from are restricted, there are a few nuances that may impact the ability for you to see the FEIN. For more information, see SmartLinx® Comprehensive Business Report .
