Finding a Company Mention in the News

Company indexing is a component of a proprietary algorithm that accurately identifies people, places, companies, and organizations from the text of the article, then indexes the article with this information. The Company indexing does not automatically pull in the subsidiaries of the company. Company indexing only applies to articles in the following languages: English, Spanish, French or Dutch. For more information about Newsdesk indexing, please see Using Indexing to Search Newsdesk.

Run the following search to find articles for AirFrance:

Search: Take 1 of the following actions:
  • Enter AirFrance in the search box and select  from the Company/Organization list of suggested terms.

  • Enter company:"Air France"
Note: A list of indexing display beneath the search box. If you do not see any suggested terms, check your settings to make sure Yes is checked next to Show Search Assistant

The company indexing does not automatically pull in the subsidiaries of the company.

Run the following search to find articles discussing Market Share for Ford Motor or General Motors:

Search: Enter Ford Motors in the search box and select  from the Company/Organization list of suggested terms.

In the search box, after the Ford Motors topic, enter OR, leave a space, and enter General Motors in the search box. Select  from the Company/Organization list of suggested terms.

In the search box, after the General Motors topic, enter AND, leave a space, and enter Market Share in the search box. Select  from the Topic list of suggested terms.

Note: A list of indexing display beneath the search box. If you do not see any suggested terms, check your settings to make sure Yes is checked next to Show Search Assistant

The company indexing does not automatically pull in the subsidiaries of the company. Therefore in the search above, the General Motors Co. topic will not automatically pull in the General Motors subsidiary OnStar. To ensure OnStar articles are retrieved, you must add the OnStar LLC topic to the search.

Another method of search of searching for a common company name by using a case sensitive command such as contentCS: or titleCS:, then enter the company name again near what the company is known for.  A few tweaks may be needed before the search returns predominately on point results.

Run the following search to find articles for Enterprise or Budget, the car rental companies:

Search: (contentCS:(Enterprise OR Budget)) AND ((Enterprise OR Budget) NEAR/20 (rent OR rental) NEAR/5 (car))
