Using Case Summaries and LexisNexis® Headnotes

Displaying Case Summaries and LexisNexis Headnotes

Take the following steps to hide or show Case Summaries and LexisNexis Headnotes on the LexisNexis® at lexis.com service:

  1. Click Preferences on the upper navigation bar.
  2. Click to check mark the Show Case Summary and Show LexisNexis® Headnotes boxes on the General tab.
  3. Click Set.

NOTE:

Click Hide Headnotes within a case to hide the LexisNexis Headnotes. Click Show Headnotes to display hidden LexisNexis Headnotes.

Navigating With LexisNexis Headnotes

LexisNexis Headnotes allow you to jump from the headnotes to relevant text and Lexis® Search by Topic or Headnote topics.

Relevant Text

Take the following steps to link to the place in the case where a LexisNexis Headnote is discussed:

  1. Click the Go to this headnote icon to jump from the LexisNexis Headnote to that discussion in the case text.
  2. Click the Go to the description icon to return to the LexisNexis Headnote from the point of discussion.

Lexis® Search by Topic or Headnote

Take the following steps to link to corresponding legal topics in Lexis® Search by Topic or Headnote:

  1. Click a hypertext topic above the text of a LexisNexis Headnote to begin additional research on that topic in Lexis® Search by Topic or Headnote, or click the Retrieve All icon to retrieve all cases pertinent to the Lexis Search by Topic or Headnote topic listed immediately to the left of that icon.
  2. Click Back on your internet browser to return to your original case.

NOTE:

Lexis Search by Topic or Headnote automatically saves your original search in History.
