The following searches illustrate common methods for searching the Federal Register on the LexisNexis® services:

We receive updates for the Federal Register from the Office of the Federal Register Monday through Friday, except holidays. These updates are usually available online by 5 p.m. that same day.

Federal Register Citation
Use the Get a Document tab to retrieve a Federal Register document when you know the citation. For example, enter the following citation to retrieve 63 FR 33778:
- Click the Get a Document tab.
- Click the Citation tab to display the Get by Citation search form.
- Enter your citation in the text box. For this example, enter 63 fr 33778.

Documents from Specific Agencies
Use the AGENCY segment to find Federal Register documents released by a specific agency. For example, take the following steps to find documents released by the Social Security Administration that discuss mental disorders:
- Click the Search tab.
- Click the Legal source tab.
- Click the following link in the order listed to search the Federal Register:

Proposed and Final Regulations
Use the ACTION segment to find proposed or final regulations. For example, take the following steps to find all proposed regulations that address the Internet and minors:
- Click the Search tab.
- Click the Legal source tab.
- Click the following links in the order listed to search the Federal Register:

- Enter action ( proposed or nprm ) and internet w/20 minors in the search field.
- Click Search.
NOTE:
Use the ACTION segment to ensure that you retrieve documents labeled with the specific action taken by an agency. Include both the word proposed and the acroynm NPRM, for Notice of Proposed Rulemaking, to find all proposed rules. To search for final rules, use action ( final ) instead of action ( proposed or nprm ).

Titles and Parts of the CFR Affected by the Federal Register
Use the CFR segment to find Federal Register documents related to a specific CFR title and part. For example, take the following steps to find regulations, notices, and other regulatory activity related to Health Maintenance Organizations under the Medicare Program, Title 42, Part 417 of the CFR:
- Click the Search tab.
- Click the Legal source tab.
- Click the following links in the order listed to search the Federal Register:

Use the HEADING segment to retrieve documents that include your search terms in the title of the document. For example, take the following steps to retrieve all Federal Register documents with the phrase medical device in their title:
- Click the Search tab.
- Click the Legal source tab.
