Using the LexisNexis PatentOptimizer Analytics feature

For more information about using the LexisNexis PatentOptimizer Analytics feature, see the Help screen How do I use the PatentOptimizerTM Analytics feature?.

Take the following steps to use the LexisNexis PatentOptimizer® Analytics feature:

  1. Open a patent document in Microsoft Office or Microsoft Internet Explorer.
  2. Click Analytics in the Tools group of the LexisNexis PatentOptimizer® toolbar.
  3. On the Source tab, enter the patents you want to analyze:
    • If you have a list of patents, type or paste the list in the Patents field.
    • You can search for patents on the Search tab by entering your search criteria in the appropriate fields and clicking Search.
Note: For more information and descriptions of the search options, see the Help screen PatentOptimizer® Analytics.
    • Import documents with patent information on the My Documents tab by clicking Import and nagivating to the location of the documents on your computer.
    • Open a set of previously saved patents, such as patents from an earlier session of LexisNexis PatentOptimizer Analytics or a list of patents downloaded from LexisNexis® TotalPatent® by clicking Open and navigating to the file on your computer.
  4. If there are items in the Patents field, select those items and press Delete.
  5. Click Run Analytics Profile.
Note: You may receive a message about system performance. Click OK to continue if prompted. As a general tip, you can increase performace speed by reducing the number of patents to be analyzed at one time.
  6. When the analysis is complete, click the Profile tab.
  7. Use the filter tabs across the top of the dialog box and the choices displayed to select different items to filter your results. For example, if you wanted to filter your results to patents with a specific Assignee and Parts, click the People & Org tab and select the Assignee, then click the Specification tab and select the Parts.
  8. Select your next action:
  9. Click Close when you have completed your analysis.

Note: You may not have access to the LexisNexis PatentOptimizer Analytics feature. If you do not have access, you will see a pop-up window with that information when you click Analytics. If you receive that message, contact your LexisNexis® Account Representative for information about having access added to your subscription.
