 Background

The State Net Bill Tracking sources include a summary of pending legislation from introduction through enactment or veto, and chronicle the stages of the bill’s legislative processes. Changes made to bills during the legislative process are not reflected in the SYNOPSIS section of the bill tracking report. Consequently, the full text of the bill should be consulted and reviewed for any changes to the language of the bill.

Only actions that move the bill forward through the process or change the bill are tracked. This includes actions such as when a bill goes to committee, passes out of committee, passes to the opposite house, amendments are adopted or withdrawn. Actions such as Action deferred or Placed on Calendar are not currently tracked.

In bill tracking reports, citations initially contain the phrase NEW BILL, e.g., see 2002 Bill Tracking AZ S.B. 1468. The NEW BILL message only appears on the bill tracking report when the bill is first introduced. If the bill has further action, the message is removed.

State bill tracking documents only include the name of the primary sponsor.

The order of the documents in your results is based on Relevance until you change the Sort order.

Note: Nebraska does not have a separate House and Senate. In this state, the bills are all referred to as Legislative Bill (LB) and display in ascending bill number order.
