Problem Description

You are using the Check Cite Format feature in Lexis® for Microsoft® Office and receive the above error. This problem may be due to pre-existing codes in the document around citations. For example, Microsoft® Word's TOA markup.

Suggested Action
  1. Create a backup of the document.
  2. Click Clean Doc.
  3. Select Remove Citation Metadata.
  4. Click OK.
  5. Click Ok.
Note: When you remove the citation metadata, your current citation text will not change and the citations will no longer be managed by Lexis for Microsoft Office. This process cannot be undone.
  6. Re-run the desired Lexis for Microsoft Office feature on the document again.

Note: If you are using Lexis for Microsoft Office using the Office 365 or Mac versions, the Remove Citation Metadata and Remove Hyperlinks features are located under Check Cite Format > Set Cite Format.

If this does not work, or resolve, the problem, Word can be instructed to remove all metadata.

  1. Click File > Highlight Info.
  2. Click the Check for Issues button under Prepare for Sharing.
  3. Select Inspect Document. The Document Inspector dialog box appears.
  4. Scroll down in the box and locate Hidden Text. It is the last option listed.
  5. Make sure that Hidden Text is check and click the Inspect button.
Note: Word will scan the document and report what it found and give the user the option to remove the offending content.
  6. You can click the Remove All for each portion, re-inspect the document to ensure it is clean.
  7. Save those changes, then re-run the Lexis for Microsoft Office feature.
