Criminal Records Photos

Criminal records contain photos if one is available. If the record does not contain a photo, a silhouette appears instead.

Display Criminal Record Photo - Place a checkmark in this box to include photos in your results. The default setting for this feature is turned on to display photos. Uncheck the box to turn it off.

Photos cannot be delivered via Print, Download, Email, or Text Only. If you want to print the photo, use a screen print or a browser print.

Search Tips

The following information provides search tips for searching criminal records:
  • Search Form is the only option to search Criminal records.

  • Running a search on the last name and first name is a good approach due to the fact that the DOB, SSN and address is not always provided from the underlying court or Dept. of Corrections. If the name is common, add a birth year, if available, or a city/state.

  • Take caution when you enter search criteria as too much information could limit your results. The information available in Criminal Records varies greatly and can impact the ability to retrieve results.

Content

The content of the records vary depending on the type of record. Most contain the following:

  • Name
  • Address
  • Date of Birth
  • Offenses - description, date
  • Case Number

The following acronyms appear in some of the records:

  • Offense: The information in this section differs greatly. Some jurisdictions do not provide offenses therefore state NOT SPECIFIED. Other states just provide a statute, while still other jurisdictions provide the full detail of the offense.
  • TCATS - Traffic Citation Accounting Transmission System (Florida Association of Court Clerks and Comptroller)

Criminal Records Gateway

North Carolina Criminal Records provide a gateway link to full case details, when available.

The details include:
  • offense
  • offense dates
  • sentencing information
  • statute
  • pleas and fines

The gateway link can be found in Criminal Records and in SmartLinx® Comprehensive Person Report. Once you click on the Get NC Criminal Records gateway link a transactional warning message appears. If you have Disable Transactional Access turned on, you will not see the gateway link.

Note: Due to a vendor change, the Get NC Criminal Records gateway link may not work and retrieve an error.  The exact error message varies depending on your IP provider. We are working with the vendor to restore the links as soon as possible.

Criminal Records for Juveniles and Minors

LexisNexis® does not import criminal records if the state has flagged the record as belonging to a juvenile. However, if the record is not flagged as a juvenile, then the record is imported. LexisNexis does not determine juvenile records by the birth date for the following reasons:
  • The birth date may be a typo, as there are some records in the data from almost every jurisdiction with birth dates that are in the future.
  • A juvenile may be tried as an adult, and his record is thus reportable.
  • Some states have youthful offender records, yet these youthful offenders can be over 21 years old and still be classified as a youthful offender.
  • Being classified as a youthful offender depends on the crime, if this was a first offense, etc. A youthful offender is not necessarily a juvenile.
  • The laws concerning juvenile records vary from state to state.

Criminal Groups and Categories

Where available, criminal records results will include the type of crime involved – for example, arson, armed robbery, traffic, etc.  Customers can also use the type of crime as a search criteria to help narrow results.  Key points:
  • Not all records include the classification, so this may impact results.
  • The Groups and Categories cannot be used to create a list, for instance, of people with criminal records involving Arson in a particular city or state.
  • The following disclaimer appears at the top and bottom of the Categories and Groups: Please note that not all criminal records are categorized, and categorizations are not legal conclusions.
