 Overview


You can apply pre-search filters prior to running your search to help you target your results to certain content types, recent & favorites and sources. Pre-search filters can be applied from the Home Page and from the Power Search page.

 Home Tab Pre-Search Filters


Take the following steps to apply pre-search filters:
  1. Click the Home tab.
  2. Click the Date drop-down arrow in the Main Search box to select a different date range.
    Note: You can select a predefined date range from the drop-down or enter a custom date range.
  3. Click the Content Type drop-down arrow in the Main Search box to select a different content type.
    Note: Click on a top-level content type in the list to drill down to subsets of that content.
  4. Enter your search terms in the Enter search terms field.
  5. Click Search.

 Power Search Tab Pre-Search Filters


The Power Search page offers the ability to apply pre-search filters. 

Take the following steps to apply pre-search filters:
  1. Click the Power Search tab.
  2. Take 1 of the following actions:
    • Click the Filters tab under the Date field.
      • Select the filters that you want to use to restrict your search.
        Note: You can expand the News filter to apply additional filters.
    • Click the Sources tab under the Date field.
      • Click on the Recent Sources or Favorite Sources tab.
      • Select the filters that you want to use to restrict your search.
        Note: You can select from the most recent pre-search filters you selected or a list of favorites. For more information, see How Do I User Favorites on Nexis 
  3. Select the filters that you want to use to restrict your search.
  4. Enter your search terms in the Enter search terms and connectors field.
  5. Click Search.
