How to Search by Charges on Lexis CourtLink

United States District Criminal Courts and some state courts have the search option to enter Charges in criminal cases on the Home screen.

Charges Field 

The Charges field searches for a specific statute or term in criminal cases.

Take the following steps to find dockets where Charges are filed under 18 USC 1349:

1. Select the court you want to run the search in from the Within drop-down list.
2. Expand Criminal Court Options.
3. Enter the following terms in the Charges field:  (conspir! w/5 mail fraud) or 18 usc 1349 or 18 u.s.c. 1349 or 18:1349
4. Press Enter or click Search.

Take the following steps to find dockets where Charges are filed under conspiracy:

1. Select the court you want to run the search in from the Within drop-down list.
2. Expand Criminal Court Options.
3. Enter the following terms in the Charges field:  conspiracy
4. Press Enter or click Search.

You can also search for Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) sections, although this is rarely included in the Charges field.

Take the following steps to find dockets where charges are filed under 18 USC 1349 in the Keywords field on the Home page:

1. Select the court you want to run the search in from the Within drop-down list.
2. Enter the following terms in the search box:  charges((conspir! w/5 mail fraud) or 18 usc 1349 or 18 u.s.c. 1349 or 18:1349)
3. Press Enter or click Search.
