The Manage Themes feature allows users to create and manage branded Newsletters sent from Nexis Newsdesk®. You can apply many common branding components such as Font Types, Colors, Styles, and Background Colors. You can also apply your logo in place of the LexisNexis logo is the default logo. However, you cannot remove the LexisNexis® footer from the Manage Theme.

Creating a New Theme  


Take the following steps to create a new theme:

  1. Click the Share tab.
  2. Click the Manage Themes subtab.
  3. Click New Theme.
  4. Enter a new theme name in the Theme Name field.
  5. Under the Theme Type, select one of the following:
  • Newsdesk Modern (Mobile Friendly) - offers a modern look and feel with built-in purposeful white space, header variations, and the selection of an accent color. The Modern theme reduces time users spend configuring newsletters and it is configured to be easily navigated on mobile devices.  
    Note: Select Enhanced if you want the ability to delete articles in a newsletter. 
    • The Newsdesk Modern theme provides the following defaults: 
      • Up or Down arrows on the Edit & Send Now page to change where an article displays in the Newsletter.
      • Contextual article extracts.
      • Default article metadata, including Source, Author, Publish Date, Location, Word Count (when available) in browser view and Source and Publish Date in mobile view.
      • Lato font (sizes: 24, 20, 16, 14).
  • Enhanced - offers maximum flexibility in styling options allowing users to change the color of the Header, Email Body, and Accent Color used throughout the theme.
    Note: Select Enhanced if you want the ability to delete articles in a newsletter. 
  • Simple - maintains all the flexibility in modifying fonts and content as the enhanced HTML email and maintains a white email body. Best for email clients and browser types that limit HTML tags. 
If you choose:

Modern Theme Type  

  1. (Optional) Under the Header section, use the Upload Your Header Image functionality to add a logo. You can either click on Browse or use the Paste image URL here to add a logo.
    Note: The logo size limit is 610 x 94 pixels.
    Note: You can use the tools to resize, move, crop, and rotate your logo in the Preview Theme section. Once you Apply the selections made or save the new theme, you no longer have the ability to resize or further manipulate the logo. For more information, see Editing a Theme Logo.
  2. Under the Colors section, select an Accent Color. 
  3. (Optional) Enter text in the Summary Text box.
  • This text displays in the newsletter above the article list. 
  • Up to 500 characters may be entered.
  • The Summary Text field supports HTML coding.
  1. Click Save.

If you choose:

Enhanced and Simple Theme Types  

  1. (Optional) Under the Header section, use the Upload Your Header Image functionality to add a logo. You can either click on Browse or use the Paste image URL here to add a logo.
    Note: The logo size limit is 610 x 94 pixels.
    Note: You can use the tools to resize, move, crop, and rotate your logo in the Preview Theme section. Once you Apply the selections made or save the new theme, you no longer have the ability to resize or further manipulate the logo. For more information, see Editing a Theme Logo.
  2. (Optional) Under the Header section, enter a Logo Link URL to add a hyperlink to the logo imageso when the logo image is clicked the Newsletter recipient is directed to the corresponding company website.
  3. (Optional) Under the Fonts section, select the Type, Size, Style, and Color for the following newsletter options:
  • Header
    • Note: This option only appears if Enhanced is selected as the Theme Type.
  • Table of Contents
  • Feed Title
  • Article Headline
  • Source
  • Author
  • Date
  • Article Content
  1. (Optional) Under the Content section, select the following article level options that you want to display in the newsletter:
  • Highlight Keywords allows highlighting and bolding of keywords. You can also choose which highlighting color best complements your theme style.
    • Bolding
    • Color
  • Show All
    • Companies Mentioned
    • People Mentioned
    • Industry
    • Subject
    • Source Country
  • Show Word Count displays article word counts.
  • Show Article Sentiment displays article sentiment.
    Note: Applies only to the Enhanced themes.
  • Show Article Count displays total article counts which displays at the top of the theme.
  • Show Images displays article images.
    Note: Applies only to the Enhanced themes.
  • Show Sharing Options displays sharing options, such as Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. 
    Note: Applies only to the Enhanced themes.
  • Show Section Divider applies a line divider between sections.
    Note: Applies only to Simple themes.
  • User Comments allows you to protect the anonymity for your team to show the team effort without exposing internal and individual information to the newsletter recipients.
    • Select one of the following from the User Comments drop-down list:
      • No User Comments
      • User Comments with Author/Date
      • User Comments without Author/Date
  • Newsletter Language allows you to localize the non-dynamic newsletter text, such as date, title, "Unsubscribe", etc., so that you can send newsletters entirely in the localized version.
    • Select one of the following from the Newsletter Language drop-down list:
      • English
      • Español (Spanish)
      • Deutsch (German) 
      • Français (French)
      • Nederlands (Dutch)
      • Português (Portuguese)
  • Table Of Contents
    • Select one of the following from the Table Of Contents drop-down list:
      • Table of Contents
      • Table of Contents with Headlines Select one of the following:
        • Headline Only
        • Headline|Source|Date
        • Source|Headline|Date
      • No Table of Contents
  • Article Extract
    • Select one of the following from the Article Extract drop-down list:
      • Contextual Extract
      • Start of Text Extract
      • No Article Extract
  • Order By
    • Harvest Date
    • Publish Date
  • Extract Size (Only For Licensed Content)
    • 255
    • 300
    • 400
  1. (Optional) Under the Colors section, select a color for the following items:
  • Header
  • Email Body
  • Accent Color
  1. (Optional) Under the Preview Theme section, click in the Summary Text box to enter text.
  • This text displays in the newsletter above the article list.
  • Up to 500 characters may be entered.
  • The Summary Text field supports HTML coding.
     
  1. (Optional) Under the Preview Theme section, scroll down to the bottom and click Add Conclusion Text to enter text.
    Note: The Conclusion Text field supports HTML coding.
  1. Click Save.

Publishing a Theme  


Manage Theme creators can publish their themes to share the Theme across the organization. They use the Publish functionality to share the theme with other Newsdesk Newsletter users to apply to their Newsletters. Publishing themes saves time, reduces duplicate effort, and creates brand consistency across email communications. A published theme can only be modified or deleted by the user who created the theme.

Take the following steps to publish a theme you created:
  1. Click the Share tab.
  2. Click the Manage Themes subtab.
  3. Select the Theme Name from the Select Theme drop-down list.
  4. Click the Publish link to the right of the Select Theme drop-down.
  5. Click Publish.

Editing an Existing Theme  


You can customize the styles and fonts, create introductory text in the header, include a sign off message in the footer, and add images or logos for your current newsletter with the Edit Newsletter feature.

Take the following steps to edit an existing email theme:
  1. Click the Share tab.
  2. Click the Manage Themes subtab.
  3. Select the Theme Name from the Select Theme drop-down list.
  4. Make the necessary edits.
  5. Click Save.

Editing a Theme Logo 



You have the ability to resize, move, crop, and rotate your logo in the Preview Theme section when you create a new theme. Once you Apply the selections made or save the theme, you no longer have the ability to resize or further manipulate the logo.

Take the following steps to edit a theme logo:

  1. Click the Share tab.
  2. Click the Manage Themes subtab.
  3. Select the Theme Name from the Select Theme drop-down list.
  4. Re-add the logo by either clicking on Browse or using the Paste image URL here field. 
  5. Utilize the tools in the Preview Theme section to resize, move, crop, and rotate your logo.
  6. Click Save.

Deleting a Theme  



Take the following steps to delete a theme:
  1. Click the Share tab.
  2. Click the Manage Themes subtab.
  3. Select the Theme Name from the Select Theme drop-down list.
  4. Click the Delete link to the right of the Select Theme drop-down.
    Note: If the theme is applied to any newsletters, you are prompted to select a replacement theme for those impacted newsletters.
  5. Click Delete.

Setting a Theme as Default  



The theme named Newsdesk Enhanced Theme is the default for all users. This means that all new newsletters created defaults to using the Newsdesk Enhanced Theme. If you change the default newsletter, then all new newsletters default to that theme.

Take the following steps to set a default theme:
  1. Click the Share tab.
  2. Click the Manage Themes subtab.
  3. Select the Theme Name from the Select Theme drop-down list.
  4. Click the Set Default link to the right of the Select Theme drop-down.
    Note: All new newsletters created under the customer's account defaults to this theme.
  5. Click Set Default.

Changing the Theme Type for a Theme  



The Theme Type must be set to Enhanced to have the ability to delete articles in the Edit & Send Now function of a Newsletter.

Take the following steps to change the theme type:
  1. Click the Share tab.
  2. Click the Manage Themes subtab.
  3. Select the Theme Name from the Select Theme drop-down list.
  4. Select Enhanced as the Theme Type.
  5. Click Save.
    Note: You may have to Sign out and back in for the change to take effect.
