 The Nexis Newsdesk® search results includes an Insights toggle to display overall metrics, Newsdesk Answers, and to drill down into the underlying result components. For more information, watch this video:

Adding an Insight to the Dashboard
 

 Insights

Take the following steps to display Insights:
  1. Run a search.
  2. Click Insights next to the Results link.
  3. (Optional) Scroll down and click on any link to drill down into that story, source, or conversation.
Insights allows you to answer the following:
 
 
Question Answer
What are the Top Stats?
View the Total coverage, Potential reach, Positive coverage, and Negative coverage figures.
  • Total coverage includes the number of results without any deduplication, whereas the Results tab may display a lower number if the Deduplication settings Fewer/Fewest have been selected.
  • Potential reach = (Number of articles from a single source X Total source reach of the corresponding source) + (Number of articles from a single source X Total source reach of the corresponding source) etc.
Example: 2 articles are returned. One source has a reach of 250k, the other 500k. The Potential reach would be calculated as: (1 X 250k) + (1 X 500k) = 750K
 
What are the spikes in coverage?
The chart shows coverage over and spikes over the period searched. 
  • Hover your cursor over the chart line to view the number of articles retrieved on that date 
  • Click the chart line to view the underlying stories  
  • View below the chart to see next to each spike flag, designated by a capital letter::
    • The date of the spike
    • The percentage growth for that spike compared to the chart average
    • The top story under that spike
    • Click the Circle below the letter to display the stories under that spike
What are the top stories?
Read the top stories for your search.
  • Toggle between the Latest and the Most Popular (based on the reach and rank of sources) stories.
  • Click the similar articles link to display the articles in a panel that slides out from the right side of the Newsdesk window.

What are the most active sources?
 

Identifies the most active sources and their sentiment.

What coverage has the highest reach?
 

Reach refers to the number of unique visitors to the source each month. It is a way to measure the most popular sites. The Reach calculation is dependent on the type of source.
  • The Reach number for Online News and other online sources is the number of unique visitors going to a particular website.
  • The Reach number for Print is the circulation of the publication.
  • The Reach number for TV/Radio is the audience number.

Who are the most active authors?
 

Identifies the most active authors

What coverage has the most positive sentiment?
 

Identifies the articles with the highest sentiment.

What coverage has the most negative sentiment?
 

Identifies the articles with the lowest sentiment.

What is the media value?
 

Provides the sum of all media values for coverage appearing in sources for which audience reach data is available in Newsdesk. This number currently includes duplicate articles.

Ask a question link allows you to suggest questions you would like answered in future releases.

Who is mentioned in the conversation?
 

View which people are dominating the conversation.

What companies are mentioned?
 

View which companies are dominating the conversation.
What is the sentiment of the conversation?

The chart shows Negative, Neutral and Positive coverage over the period searched. 
  • Hover your cursor over the chart line to view the number of Negative, Neutral and Positive articles retrieved on that date 
  • Click the chart line to view the underlying stories  

What topics are being discussed?  
 

Click on a topic name to view its underlying articles.

Where is the conversation coming from?
 

Hover over the highlighted country to identify it. Click on the country to view its underlying articles.

 Document Delivery

You can deliver the entire Insights report in PDF format or specific sections of the report in PNG format. The headlines under the What are the top stories? section are active links in the PDF format however are not active when delivered in PNG format. 

Take the following steps to deliver sections or the entire Insights report:
  1. Run a search.
  2. Click Insights next to the Results link.
  3. Click the Actions drop-down arrow located to the right of the search name.
  4. Click Download/Export.
  5. Click Insights (PDF).
  6. Either click on All or check individual sections.
  7. Click Download to generate the report.

 Adding an Insight to the Dashboard

 You can add your search Insight as a widget to the Dashboard.

Take the following steps while viewing an search Insight to add a section to a dashboard(s):
  1. Click the Share to Dashboard icon located in the top right of the section of the Insight.
  2. In the Share to Dashboard popup screen, check the dashboard(s) you want to add your Insight to.
  3. Click Submit.
