Welcome to InterAction 8 (MAR 2023)

InterAction Version 8 leverages recent advancements in security technologies to make improvements to the overall security of the applications. These enhancements better safeguard InterAction data and protect communications among components of the application. InterAction customers can now manage database user accounts to follow their corporate security standards.

What's New in this release?

InterAction Version 8 includes a new InterAction Command Line Interface (CLI) tool and five security features. The default security features provide customers with the ability to:

  • Adopt a Salted Hashing Algorithm to protect InterAction user passwords against dictionary attacks.
  • Implement a lockout mechanism in the InterAction Administrator and Windows Client applications to mitigate brute force attacks, such as password guessing.
  • Enhance the security of InterAction Application Server Sessions with Windows Data Protection API (DPAPI) technology to better protect the encrypted HMAC key stored in the registry.

These optional security features, implemented at customer request, provide customers with the ability to:
  • Enable SQL Server Column-Level Encryption for storing sensitive information (e. g., suppressed contact data and passwords and credentials) in the InterAction database.*
  • Create Alternative Database User Accounts that can replace the hard-coded IDCAPP and IDCDFLT accounts used to connect to the InterAction database.*  New capability to allow InterAction administrator to fully manage database user accounts, replacing hard-coded IDCAPP and IDCDFLT accounts for enhanced security.

*Regarding the above security features, the SQL Server Column-Level Encryption feature is a prerequisite for the Alternative Database User Account feature. As such, the SQL Server Column Level Encryption must be installed before a customer can take advantage of the Alternative Database User Account feature.

Things to Know Before Beginning Your Upgrade

Upgrading your organization to InterAction 8 requires that you upgrade your database and software.

Review our Version Compatibility Matrix guide as it documents the combined configurations of InterAction applications and their use with other 3rd party applications, operating systems and database platforms. For each InterAction component, the supported 3rd party products are listed along with any notes that may be important in your planning process.

All InterAction applications need to be upgraded to version 8 before enabling any of the optional enhanced security features. See the InterAction 8 Upgrade guide for more details about upgrading to version 8 and enabling the new security features. Use the following information for upgrading to version 8, if you will not be enabling the new security features, or plan on enabling them after all InterAction applications have been upgraded to version 8.

Upgrading to InterAction 8 requires these server and back-office components to be upgraded together:
  • Database (latest update)
  • Application Server
  • InterAction Administrator (on process server)

Other components should also be upgraded to version 8 as soon as possible after upgrading the Database, Application Server and Administrator:
  • REST API
  • Application Collaboration
  • Data Minder (including Machine Learning)
  • Document Repository Server
  • Mail Merge

Client workstations that can remain on version 6.2 or higher (with some exceptions):
  • Desktop Applications (Windows Client)
  • PIM Client
  • IMO

Notes:
  • Desktop (Windows Client) 6.21.24, or higher, is required.
  • Desktop (Windows Client) 6.30, or higher, is required if you are planning to follow the procedures in our Installation Reference guide for enabling HTTPS. Full HTTPS supported was added in version 6.3 of InterAction.
  • IMO 6.25.0, or higher, is supported against a version 8 REST API.

If your organization is using InterAction for Office 365, client insights, Business Edge, Mobility, or IQ, the components that you currently have in use (such as your Mobility connector) will continue to work in the version 8 environment after upgrading.
