The Simple Search on Nexis Newsdesk® allows you to search efficiently in four specific categories: Companies, People, Topics, or Everything Else. You can select your media type, language and location. Additionally, a new Remove the Noise feature will help you remove unwanted content with a single click. Take the following steps to open the Simple Search feature:
- Click the Nexis Newsdesk logo in the Global Navigation bar.
- Click Simple Search, if Boolean Search is selected.
Note: This selection is sticky which means Simple Search becomes your default setting. - Click the category you want to search.
Creating a Companies Simple Search
You can use the companies category to track mentions of a company, organization, or brand.Take the following steps:
- Enter a company, organization, or brand name in the search box.
- Select the applicable suggested name prompt from the prompt below the search box.
- (Optional) Enter additional company, organization, or brand names.
Note: Select All or Any from the drop-down list to set the relationship between multiple terms. - Click Next.
- (Optional) Enter a keyword or phrase and then press your Enter key to refine your search further to include or exclude keywords or phrases.
- Additional keywords or phrases entered into the Include all of these keywords box are separated in the background by the AND connector.
- Additional keywords or phrases entered into the Include any of these keywords box are separated in the background by the OR connector.
- Additional keywords or phrases entered into the Exclude these keywords box are separated in the background by the OR connector.
- Click Next.
- Select the media types you want to include under Choose Content Type.
- (Optional) Click change next to Source Lists to add or remove source lists.
- Click Next.
- Select the source locations you want to include under Choose Source Location.
- (Optional) Click change next to Results in English to change or add languages.
- Click Next.
- (Optional) Check or uncheck Remove duplicate articles.
- Select All Results or Remove the Noise. For more information, see

- If you select Remove the Noise, click customize to select the categories you want to include or exclude from your results.
- Click Show Results to display your search results.
- (Optional) Click Save Search to create a Feed. For more information, see Creating and working with Saved Search Feeds on Newsdesk .
Editing a Company Simple Search
Take the following steps to view and edit the search using Simple Search:- Click Edit from the search results.
- Click the arrow next the filter you want to edit.
- Companies
- Keywords
- Content Type
- Source Location
- Language
- Noise Filters
- Click Show Results to re-run the search.
- Click Edit from the search results.
- Click Show Boolean Query to edit the search using Boolean commands.
- Click Convert to Boolean to run as a Boolean search.
- Click Convert to re-run the search.
Note:The search cannot be converted back to a Simple Search.
Creating a People Simple Search
You can use the people category to track mentions of a person or people.Take the following steps:
- Enter a person's name in the search box.
- Select the applicable suggested name prompt from the prompt below the search box.
- (Optional) Enter additional names.

- (Optional) Enter a keyword or phrase and then press your Enter key to refine your search further to include or exclude keywords or phrases.

Simple Search Date Restriction
Simple Search does not currently have a pre-search date restriction however you can apply a date restriction from the search results. You can use the Date Range filter located in the Refine Panel.[ Top ]
