You can download the results list or full-text documents in CSV, Excel, PDF, Word, or XML formats on TotalPatent One® or export to LexisNexis PatentOptimizer®. You can also download the original documents (PDFs) of patents.

Note: You can retrieve the downloads from the Downloads page.

Downloading the Results List


To download a results list, select the CSV or Excel formats.

Take the following steps to download the results list:

  1. Select the results you want to download.
  2. Click the Export icon.
  3. Click Custom field selection or one of the Recent templates for instant export.
    Note: If you click one of the recent templates, your export instantly begins and you do not have to complete the following steps. For more information about templates, see Export Templates below.
  4. Under File format & handling, select the options for your delivered results list if necessary:
    Note: Depending on other selections, some of the following options may be greyed out.
    • Select your File format
    • Select the Document range
    • Select the Custom language
    • Select the Export file handling
    • Toggle Include highlighted terms to highlight your search terms when exporting to Excel
    • Toggle Add clipped image
    • Toggle User lower resolution for images
  5. Under File format & handling, enter a custom File name.
    Note: If you do not enter a File name, the default file name includes the date and a unique identifier.
  6. Click Next to open the Field selection tab.
    Note: Under Names, if you want to include addresses for any of the fields, toggle Include addresses wherever applicable.
  7. Select Current result list.
  8. (Optional) Select other fields to include in the list.
  9. (Optional) Drag and drop fields in the right panel to change the order the fields appear.
  10. Click Export.

A message appears at the bottom right of the screen to show the progress of the export. Click Click to download once the export is ready to download to your computer.
Note: If you do not see the message, take the following steps to retrieve your exported document:
  1. Click Downloads at the top right of the page.
  2. Click the link in the Properties column for the download.
  3. Save the spreadsheet anywhere on your computer using the Excel save feature.

You do not have to subscribe to the TotalPatent One service to open a PDF linked in a downloaded Excel spreadsheet. If the download includes the TPO Document Link, only users with active TotalPatent One IDs can access the document on TotalPatent One.

Downloading Full-Text Documents


You can download the full-text documents in a PDF, CSV, Excel, Word, or XML formats.

Note: Search term or keyword highlighting does not appear in downloaded full-text documents unless you download in Excel format.

Take the following steps to download full-text documents:

  1. Select the results you want to download on the results list.
  2. Click the Export icon.
  3. Click Custom field selection or one of the Recent templates for instant export.
    Note: If you click one of the recent templates, your export instantly begins and you do not have to complete the following steps. For more information about templates, see Export Templates below.
  4. Under File format & handling, select the options for your delivered results list if necessary:
    Note: Depending on other selections, some of the following options may be greyed out.
    • Select your File format
      Note: Depending on your selection, you may have additional options, such as the ability to download in XML format for Intellixir®, VantagePoint, or any generic tool to use with XML data.
    • Select the Document range
    • Select the Custom language
    • Select the Export file handling
    • Toggle the Add clipped image and User lower resolution for images
  5. Under File format & handling, enter a custom File name.
    Note: If you do not enter a File name, the default file name includes the date and a unique identifier.
  6. Click Next to open the Field selection tab.
    Note: Under Names, if you want to include addresses for any of the fields, toggle Include addresses wherever applicable.
  7. Select the fields you want in your download documents.
    Note: Select Main bibliographic data to automatically select the relevant fields.
  8. (Optional) Drag and drop fields in the right panel to change the order the fields appear.
  9. Click Export.

A message appears at the bottom right of the screen to show the progress of the export. Click Click to download once the export is ready to download to your computer.
Note: If you do not see the message, take the following steps to retrieve your exported document:
  1. Click Downloads at the top right of the page.
  2. Click the link in the Properties column for the PDF.
  3. Open a pdf from the zip file.
  4. Save the pdf on your computer using the pdf save feature.

You do not have to subscribe to the TotalPatent One service to open a PDF linked in a downloaded Excel spreadsheet. If the download includes the TPO Document Link, only users with active TotalPatent One IDs can access the document on TotalPatent One.

You can also download individual patents by clicking on the PDF icon in the results list or while viewing the full-text patent.

Exporting to PatentOptimizer


You can select patents from the US, EP, and WO authorities to use in LexisNexis PatentOptimizer Analytics. To use this feature, you must subscribe to LexisNexis PatentOptimizer. For information about LexisNexis PatentOptimizer subscriptions, contact your LexisNexis® Account Representative.

Take the following steps to export results to PatentOptimizer:

  1. Select the results you want to export.
  2. Click the Export icon.
  3. Click Custom field selection.
  4. Select PatentOptimizer®.
  5. Select your Document range settings as necessary.
  6. Click Export.

A message appears at the bottom right of the screen to show the progress of the export. Click Click to download once the export is ready to download to your computer.
Note: If you do not see the message, take the following steps to retrieve your exported document:
  1. Click the Downloads icon at the top right of the page.
  2. Click the link in the Properties column for the file.
    Note: The PatentOptimizer file has the .pubs extension.
  3. PatentOptimizer® Analytics opens when you open the file from TotalPatent One. Use the PatentOptimizer Analytics features to complete your analysis. For more information, see Using LexisNexis PatentOptimizer Analytics .

Export Templates


You can save your Export settings as a template so you can quickly apply those settings. You can also use your recently used templates for instant export.

Take the following steps to save your settings as a template on the Export window:
  1. After making all your selections, click Save as template.
  2.  Enter a name for the template.
  3. Click Confirm.

Click Load template and click the template you want to use to quickly apply the saved settings.

The following are the download limits:

  • Results List in CSV and Excel - 10,000
  • Full-text Documents in CSV, Excel, Word, or XML - 10,000
  • Full-text Documents in PDF - 500
  • First Page in PDF - 1,500
