The Lexis® CourtLink® service dockets display the following document types as document links.

Online Documents
Free Documents
Runner Documents

 Online Documents

A document labeled Online indicates that there is an online link to the document on the court's website. When you order an Online document, Lexis CourtLink connects to the court's website and retrieves the document into Lexis  CourtLink. After you have accessed the document, there is no additional charge to deliver the document.

Sometimes a court website includes a link to a document that has restricted access (i.e., the document is sealed or only available to the attorneys on the case). Lexis CourtLink can't determine that a document with a link on the court's website has restricted access until it tries to access that document. It is possible to click on an Online link on Lexis CourtLink and have the document access fail.

When you order a large number of Online documents simultaneously, the size of the request can severely delay the delivery.

For more information about retrieving online documents, see How to Retrieve Online Documents from a Docket on Lexis CourtLink.

Please note that some documents may be available at the court but are not retrievable by our product due to size restrictions. These documents may change from Online status to Runner status.

 Free Documents

When you order an Online document, Lexis CourtLink connects to the court's site and retrieves the document. The document is added to the Lexis CourtLink database and is available to all users free of charge. The document is then labeled as Free on the docket.

For more information about retrieving free documents, see How to Retrieve Free Documents from a Docket on Lexis CourtLink.

 Runner Documents

When a document is not available from the court's website, you can engage the CourtLink runner service, CourtLink Document Retrieval, to acquire the document for you. The Runner link launches a form to order the document from CourtLink Document Retrieval Service.  Additional charges incur for this service. For more information about retrieving runner documents, see How to Retrieve Runner Documents on Lexis CourtLink.
